Project Scope
- Design a graphical expression of your finding on a given theme in a photobook
- Compile the research on the given theme into a written report
Theme: Waiting
Out of the given themes, I chose "Human and Space". This theme focus on how people interact with the space around them. My photobook concentrate only on a certain interaction - waiting. It illustrates how different people wait in different space. When waiting, people show their most natural reaction which indirectly show the community culture.
The photos are taken in many places. Most of then originated from Pasar Seni. From the LRT station at Kelana Jaya, I took the LRT to Station Pasar Seni and start taking photos as I walk around Petaling Street, Central Market and KL Sentral. The photos were filtered from about 2000 photos.

This project really challenged my photography skill. Taking good photo is a new experience to me. The design journals from Design Visualization was useful in this project. The principles of design guided me in taking photos. I also got a lot advice from my friends and my lecturer. I learnt to present through graphical means. First and foremost, it is important to clarify message you intend to relay to make the selection easier. Then, set a few simple rules to determine the qualification of the image with the theme. Lastly, select the photos abiding to these rules and the principles of design.
Arranging the photos in the correct layout is also very important. The order of the photos should be smooth and presented in a story mode. The photos together should tell a story. Simple layout is the best as it allow the readers to concentrates easily avoid repeating the photos of similiar scene because it reduces the impact of the photos. Basically, my layout is the repetition of several simple layout to give it more variation. I did some research regarding the photobook layout. Adding simple design feature such creative page number can make a plain page interesting.
